Last year, Earlybird started working with Rev. Nayenga Primary School in Kamuli, in Eastern Uganda. The students here come from underprivileged families, and many are lucky to receive one full meal per day. This means that they are forced to try to learn on an empty stomach, which makes concentration very difficult. In Uganda, test results play a huge role in determining a child’s future, so these children are at a severe disadvantage and are often unable to improve their situation.

We started by offering our signature Porridge Program, which provides students with a free meal to start the day. However, we knew that providing breakfast was only the first step in ensuring a promising future for this next generation. One of our most important goals is to not just feed underprivileged children, but to help them develop the ability and confidence to express themselves.

Earlybird’s GoFundMe page is now live, making it easier for us to secure the resources we need to continue our work. As many of you know, we’re dedicated to providing a safe space for underprivileged children in Uganda. All proceeds from the campaign are used to fund our educational programs and wellness packages, which we administer directly to the communities we work with.

At EarlyBird256, we use affirmations in our programs to empower young girls to use their voices and take up more space. The communities we work with face so many social and economic challenges that this can be very hard to do. We start by reminding the girls that they matter, that they are seen, and that they are important. That is what #DoingLittleThingsWithPassion means to us.

EarlyBird256’s Porridge Program combats hunger in the classroom and is one of our founding programs. It’s the perfect way for us to begin empowering a community and have an immediate impact on the lives of its residents.
